Gia Hayes

This year we celebrated our 50th anniversary. Over a year ago we decided to go to students in our Digital Design and Interactive Media program to ask them to work on a project coming up with multiple logos for our 50th year. Gia Hayes, a student from Newark, and now a recent graduate, ended up creating the original design we used as our 50th anniversary logo.

We sat down with Gia recently and asked her about her plans after graduation. She's moving to Nebraska to begin working. She told us that the 50th anniversary logo came about as a class project, and she says that as the class worked on the projects, she pulled elements and ideas from various design submissions and combined elements from lots of sources to create the final product.  Gia said that she loves the fact that the final project was a result of collaboration and aspects of a bunch of different individuals’ ideas.

When asked how it felt to see her design on billboards, coffee mugs, stickers, flags, etc. she admits that it was, “So cool to see something that I made being used.” She said she found it very encouraging. Gia also went on to say that “We forget how important design is. It's such a powerful tool. It's everywhere.” That sounds like a student who has learned her lessons well in her digital design program.

As she prepared for graduation, we asked Gia how she felt about C-TEC and her two years here. She said that she was blessed that she was able to receive an education at C-TEC. She says, “The equipment and software I had at my fingertips was just incredible. C-TEC has been a huge blessing to me.”

Thanks, Gia, for your hard work and your lovely design. We wish you nothing but the best of luck in your future.
