Multicraft Maintenance Minimize

 

 
Skills: add, deepen, update and credentialize them. Most students in this program will choose to focus on either industrial or facility maintenance. The following courses (modules) within the Multicraft program are taken by both industrial or facility specialists:
• Blueprint Reading      
• Pipefitting & Related Plumbing
• Welding & AWS Certification                          
• Principles & Practices of Electricity
 
Industrial students typically take the following modules:
• Industrial Control Systems I & II
• Hydraulics/Pneumatics/Industrial Mechanics
 
Facility maintenance specialists usually choose:
• Wiring & NEC
• HVAC
• Facility Maintenance
All classes include related safety, math, blueprint reading,
and other disciplines.
 
You may take one or all of the classes below; however, to receive a certificate, you must complete at least six modules and 810 hours. Credit may be granted for a class if you can document adequate prior training or work experience. You must apply for credit prior to your start date.

Credentialing for Multicraft Students
Prepare to take a nationally-recognized, competency-based testing/certification program called NOCTI. Industrial maintenance specialists take the Industrial Maintenance Mechanic Exam. Facility maintenance specialists take the Building Trades Maintenance Exam. Other credential testing may be scheduled before or after completion of particular classes:
HVAC = CFC/EPA Refrigerant License, R-410 Safety Certificate
   and the ICE Exam
Welding = AWS-D1.1 Structural Welding Exam
Industrial Control Systems and PLCs = NOCTI Electrician

AWS-D1.1 Structural Welding                
Certification Course and Test
Take this 10-night, 50-hour course to prepare for the D1.1 test. Become an AWS Certified Welder upon successful completion of D1.1. Prerequisite: Welding skills. Instructor: Tim Broseus

Principles and Practices of Electricity
Learn basic AC/DC circuits, Ohm’s Law, safety, magnetism, transformers, capacitors and resistance, as well as series and parallel circuits. This course is a must for beginning electricians or those wanting a refresher in electrical basics. Highly recommended for students planning to attend the following courses: Electrical Wiring & NEC, Industrial Control Systems, PLCs, HVAC, or Hydraulics/Pneumatics. Electrical Wiring and NEC Code
Learn residential and light commercial wiring, circuits, conduit bending, NEC Code, etc. If you want an entry-level job as an electrician or to reinforce knowledge of installation, trouble-shooting and repair of electrical systems, this is the course for you. Instructor: Vivian Gluzinski

Blueprint Reading and Schematics
Learn the essential symbols, views and standards, as well as plumbing, carpentry, machining, welding, mechanics, HVAC, wiring and more. As a foundational class, it covers both mechanical and architectural print reading. You’ll practice surveying, plot planning and layout. Instructor: Jack Ransom

Machining for Maintenance Workers A
Practice using lathes, mills, OD/ID grinders, surface grinders, drill presses, and related tools and gauges. You may take A for 115 hours, or you may choose B for a deeper and wider experience. Learn essential math, measurement and blueprint skills. Any level of experience is acceptable.

Pipefitting and Related Plumbing
Learn proper fit-up procedures, screw, sweat, PVC and joint fittings, hangers, supports, transit, layout, measurement, plumbing math and blueprint reading for installation and maintenance. Plus, practice soldering, fusion, plastic joining, compression fittings, threading, cutting, etc. Instructor: Jack Ransom

Welding
Use SMAW (STICK), GTAW (TIG), and GMAW (MIG) processes; plus, oxyacetylene and plasma arc cutting. You’ll cover safety, symbols in related math, nomenclature, fusion of metals, electrode identification and equipment set-up.
Books and welding gloves extra. Students who value welding certification are encouraged to take the AWS-D1.1 Structural Welding class that immediately follows this class on Jan 25, '11.  Instructor: Tom Walker
