Despite a weak economy, the need for broadly trained machinists and CNC technicians is relatively strong. The number of retirees is expected to exceed the supply of adequately trained new machinists. Become a machinist who can program, and a CNC/CADCAM technician who knows conventional machine tools. Anyone meeting the pre-admissions testing standards is eligible for this highly-individualized, competency-based course, regardless of previous experience.
You’ll work with conventional machine tools, CNC programming, CNC operation, CAD/CAM, industry-style lathes, mills, saws, surface and OD/ID grinders, drills, and hand tools. Plus, you’ll gain experience in technologies, such as:
• Safety • Blueprint reading • Layout
• Applied math • Precision measurement • Heat treatment
• Metallurgy • Finishing processes
Includes a minimum of 240 hours of CNC machining technology.
The General and CNC program includes CNC I & II classes outlined below. Completers will be required to test for either NIMS or NOCTI certification. Lead Instructor: Terry Broceus, Carey Broceus, Michael Scott, Ben Staats

CNC I – Programming and Operation
Learn to read, write and edit G & M codes. Practice manually entering (writing) CNC programs for a CNC mill and lathe. Practice operation of a CNC lathe and mill while producing a variety of parts. This course is contained in the General & CNC Machining course, but may be taken separately if you have a sufficient understanding of machining. Completers will be required to test for either NIMS or NOCTI certification.

CNC II – CAD/CAM
Practice more advanced challenges with manual programming and the use of CAD/CAM (Mastercam) software to create more complex programs and parts on CNC machines. Apply these programs on an industry-like CNC mill and lathe. Plus, you’ll get an introduction to systematic troubleshooting of CNC machines and software. This course is part of the General & CNC Machining program, but may be taken separately if you have sufficient understanding of machining and CNC programming.
